If you love a striking design why not build your kitchen around one particular appliance that you really love? From sensational over-island extractors to baby pink range going way OTT.
Suspending a statement extractor over and island instantly creates a focal point in the kitchen and adds a strike of designer elegance. You could try the Redonda from Gutmann. The stainless steel cylinders are a powerful extraction tool which also brings industrial and metallic twists into your room. If you’re a fan of modernity try an integrated telescopic hood such as those from Miele. If you want an extractor which looks like a large light fitting above an island try the Air Uno Medea island hood.
Imagine a minimalist kitchen with a large pastel range cooker in the middle. A perfect mixture of minimalism, and traditional cooking power. These gorgeous pastel range cookers create a great centrepiece in a kitchen where your average integrated appliances could get lost. The Rangemaster Elise 110 in Powder Blue is our favourite. The Elan 110 in Olive Green works beautifully in grey and brown rooms and keeps a more subtle tone.
Statement lighting can update any room in the house and kitchens are definitely included in that. You can give a room an industrial twist with some hammered copper ceiling lights. Smoked glass also works really well in urban spaces. If you’re more modern-minimal try some of the moulded resin products with LED lighting built in. These look fantastic suspended from ceilings over islands. Or why not update your room with LED plinth lighting. These are easy to put in and quickly make a room feel brighter, bigger and newer.
If you can, stripping back one of the walls to reveal the original brickwork is an excellent way of transforming a flat space. It gives a room a rustic feel which can be used in both traditional and industrial styles. If gives off excellent textures and adds that statement something which makes a room interesting.
Size does matter. Why not invest in one of the Fisher and Paykel American style fridge freezers? They also come with stainless steel edging kits when you recess them into a wall. This frames them brilliantly. They mix up chest freezers and the classic American double-door style. They’re big, the beautiful, they’re efficient. If you’ve got the space they’re fantastic appliances.
